Located at 224 W. Washington Street in Milwaukee, the original Kalt-Zimmers Manufacturing Co., also known as The Shoe Factory, was added to the National and State Registers of Historic Places in 1980. Masonry Restoration, Inc. Was engaged to perform a comprehensive facade restoration, which included parapet reconstruction, removal of non-historic stucco, cleaning of the exterior, and extensive repointing of this 110-year-old building, preserving its historic character for generations to come.
The team started by examining materials affected by weather exposure. Crews completed Historic Preservation, Repointing, Facade Cleaning to restore stability and improve exterior condition. These efforts improved the stability and durability of the building envelope.
The completed restoration improved overall durability and strengthened critical building components.
