Built in 1901, the Railway Exchange Building was designed by architect William LeBaron Jenney, famed for creating the world’s first steel-framed skyscraper, Chicago’s Home Insurance Building (1884). The Railway Exchange Building remains a prominent landmark at the corner of E. Wisconsin Avenue and N. Broadway. Due to corrosion of the structural steel, Masonry Restoration, Inc. Was engaged to remove significant sections of the brick veneer, repair the structural steel backup, and reconstruct the masonry to match the original, preserving both the building’s historic character and structural integrity.
