The historic sandstone Nakoma Park stairs, located between Cherokee Drive and Nakoma Park, had suffered decades of neglect and were in need of repair. Masonry Restoration, Inc. was hired by the City of Madison to carefully dismantle and reconstruct the stairs, ensuring a historically accurate restoration that preserves their original character and craftsmanship.
Before repairs began, the team examined materials affected by age and exposure. Technicians executed Historic Preservation, Masonry Rebuilding, and Stone and Terra Cotta Restoration to resolve issues related to material wear and exposure. This process supported a more resilient and predictable exterior system.
Repairs helped stabilize compromised materials, supporting better long-term building performance.
