The building at 318 East Chicago Street in Milwaukee, originally built in 1916 for the Phoenix Knitting Works, was designed by Kirchhoff & Rose in the Romanesque Revival style. Masonry Restoration, Inc. performed restoration work that included rebuilding the stone and brick parapets and repointing deteriorated mortar joints, preserving the building’s historic architectural character.

Project Overview

Our Process

We began with a detailed inspection. Work included Historic Preservation, Stone & Terra Cotta Restoration, Masonry Rebuilding, Tuckpointing and Repointing, carried out to correct deterioration across affected areas. The approach supported long-term reliability of the facade.

The Outcome

By reinforcing deteriorated components, the project improved long-term exterior performance.
